The Joy of Being Well Series
Somewhere along the way, we’ve been led to believe that wellness has an end point.
That if we eat well for a while, lose the weight, complete the detox, get our blood results back, or finally retire, we’ll somehow arrive at a place called “healthy.”
But life doesn’t work like that.
Our bodies are continually changing. Our circumstances change. The seasons of our lives change. What served us at forty may not serve us at sixty. What worked beautifully a few years ago may need to be adjusted today.
Wellness isn’t something we achieve and then forget about.
It is a lifelong relationship with ourselves.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with people in every stage of life—from young adults trying to establish healthy habits, to clients in their late eighties and nineties who are still teaching me what resilience, courage and grace really look like.
One thing has become increasingly clear.
Wellness doesn’t retire.
Right through until our very last breath, we are invited to pay attention.
To notice when our energy changes.
To recognise when our bodies are asking for something different.
To remain curious rather than fearful.
To make small adjustments that continue to support our capacity, our independence and our vitality.
I don’t believe wellness is about trying to stay young forever.
I believe it is about giving ourselves the very best opportunity to live well at every age.
At Evolved Wellness, I often say that our bodies are always communicating with us.
A change in energy.
A restless night’s sleep.
Digestive discomfort.
Stiffness.
Joy.
Calm.
Strength.
These are not interruptions to life—they are information.
The question isn’t simply, “How do I get rid of this symptom?”
Perhaps a better question is,
“What is my body trying to teach me today?”
When we begin listening with curiosity instead of frustration, something remarkable happens.
We stop fighting ourselves.
We begin working with ourselves.
We become more aware of the choices that genuinely support our health—not because someone told us we should, but because we can feel the difference they make.
Sometimes those choices are wonderfully simple.
A nourishing meal.
An early night.
A walk in nature.
Drinking more water.
Taking time to breathe.
Asking for support.
Connecting with people who lift our spirits.
Small choices, made consistently, have an extraordinary way of shaping the quality of our lives.
The joy in being well is not found in perfection.
It isn’t found in never getting sick.
It isn’t found in chasing youth.
It is found in learning to honour yourself through every season of life.
To stay attentive.
To remain open.
To keep learning.
To keep gently adjusting your choices as life unfolds.
Because wellness doesn’t retire.
Neither should our commitment to caring for ourselves.
Not through our forties.
Not through our sixties.
Not through our eighties.
Not for as long as we are blessed with this precious life.
May we never stop learning how to care for the remarkable bodies we have been given.
And may we never lose sight of the simple, beautiful joy that comes from being well.
🌿 This Week’s Gentle Reflection
What is one small change you could make this week that would better support your capacity, your vitality and your joy—not because you have to, but because you deserve to experience the gift of being well?
Until next Sunday,
